PIAM 3 Days
PIAM is a 3-day training course offered by Rich Training for staff to learn techniques for preventing and managing violence and aggression from patients or visitors within the NHS Sector.
PIAM aligns with the Violence Prevention and Reduction Standard, which aims to minimise the use of force and restraint in healthcare settings.

PIAM 5 Days
PIAM 5 days has enhanced session, emergency procedures with a range of verbal and physical skills to help defuse tense situations before they escalate to violence.
PIAM emphasises communication, de-escalation, and early intervention. Physical restraint is only used as an absolute last resort.

Techniques taught include conflict resolution, breakaway skills, restraint holds, team intervention, and post-incident support. There is a strong focus on reducing harm to both staff and patients.
The course is delivered by accredited PIAM instructors. It involves theoretical learning as well as practical scenarios to embed the skills. Refresher training is recommended every 12-18 months.
Rich Training is a member of the Restraint Reduction Network committed to using restrictive intervention techniques only as a last resort. The PIAM course embraces the six core strategies: Leadership, Data collection and analysis, Workforce Development, Using prevention tools and strategies, Involving people with lived experience, and post-incident support and review.
Licensed security officers working in healthcare settings are encouraged to take the PIAM course so they have the appropriate training and techniques for their role. It will professionalise their skills and ensure consistency of approach with other clinical staff.
